Sullivan Seeded Third In Bank-It Tourney

Sullivan is the third seed in the sixth annual FCNB Bank-It Tournament, which tipped off Monday with two first round games.

The Eagles played Tuesday night against sixth-seeded St. Clair.

St. James is the tournament’s No. 1 seed and faced eighth-seeded Potosi in the opener on Monday.

Fourth-seeded Waynesville met fifth-seeded Steelville in the other first round game Monday.

Defending champion Farmington is the second seed and the Knights took on seventh-seeded Salem Tuesday night.

The tournament will run through Friday and consolation bracket games begin Wednesday.

The St. James-Potosi loser meets the Waynesville-Steelville loser at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Farmington-Salem loser playing the Sullivan-St. Clair loser at 7 p.m.

The championship bracket starts Thursday with the St. James-Potosi winner meeting the Waynesville-Steelville winner at 6 p.m. and the Farmington-Salem winner playing the Sullivan-St. Clair winner at 7:30 p.m.

Finals begin on Friday with seventh place and consolation both at 4:30 p.m.

Third place gets started at 6 p.m. and the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

Sullivan won the championship in 2016 and 2017.

St. Clair took care of business in their season opener on November 26, defeating Valley Park 71-42.

Top-seeded St. James comes into the tournament after reaching the Class 3 quarterfinals a year ago.

The Tigers boast six seniors, including guard Andrew Branson. Branson averaged 22 points per game.

Farmington made a run to the Class 4 quarterfinals last March, but were knocked out by Cape Girardeau Central.

The Knights went 22-3, but graduated a slew of key players, including 6-8 center Cole Laurence, 6-5 forward Cole Gerstenberger, 6-4 forward Tycen Gray and sharpshooting guard Bryce Sancegraw.

Steelville advanced to the district finals, but came up short 64-63 against St. James.

Waynesville will bring decent size in Mike Lewis and Jared Hyatt, who both go 6-3. Shen Butler-Lawson is listed at 6-foot and 195 pounds.
