Sullivan Annouces Haar, Lawrence To Lead Football, Wrestling Programs

Sullivan High School announced Friday morning that Eddie Haar will take over as head football coach and Carl Lawrence as head wrestling coach.

Haar was most recently head coach at Potosi while Lawrence has been an assistant on the SHS wrestling staff the last six seasons.

Haar replaces Cody Davis, who moved up as assistant principal and activities director.

Lawrence takes over for Matt Peregoy, who departed after nine seasons to become principal at Bourbon High School.

Eddie Haar

A graduate of Eureka High School, Haar then attended Missouri Valley College where he participated in both football and track.  He then finished his degree at Lindenwood University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Haar brings 11 years of football coaching experience. Sullivan High School Activities Director Jason Merkel said, “Coach Haar will be a tremendous addition to Sullivan High School. He has a great grasp of what it takes to continue to build our football program and bring more success to Sullivan.”

When asked what he is excited about the most, Coach Haar responded, “My family and I are very excited to be a part of the Sullivan community. We plan on continuing to build off the success that Coach Davis, staff and players had last season. Sullivan is a great school district and we can’t wait to meet everyone and get our program started!”

Haar is married to his wife, Cassandra, and they have three children, Isabella (7), Mya (3) and Marcus (1).

The Eagles open up their season August 28th, 2020 at home vs. Cuba at 7 pm. They will look to build on their 2019-2020 season which saw the program’s first winning season since 2013 (6-5).

Carl Lawrence

A Sullivan native, Lawrence graduated from Sullivan High School in 2009.  As a senior, he placed fourth at state. 

Lawrence then attended college at Missouri Valley College where he was an All-American wrestler. Sullivan High School Activities Director Jason Merkel said, “Coach Lawrence’s passion and dedication to the wrestling program has been evident from his first day as an assistant.  

He has built tremendous relationships with the athletes and staff and will use his wrestling background to continue the rise and success of Sullivan wrestling.”

The Eagles will look to build on their tremendous 2019-2020 campaign which saw the program’s first conference and district title, as well as, a top 10 finish at state.
