Bases-Loaded Walk Sends Eagles To Win Over Washington

D McReynolds drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the sixth inning against Washington on Monday to help Sullivan past the Jays 6-5.

McReynolds started in an 0-2 count and saw seven pitches from Blake Thies in the winning at-bat. 

Jacob Miller, who scored on the walk, recorded the final six outs for the Eagles. He struck out five straight to end the game.

Monday’s victory avenged an 8-2 loss against the Jays on March 20.

Sullivan knocked Washington starter Cameron Weaver around for five runs and drew five walks.

Thies entered the sixth inning with the game tied 5-5 and gave up a hit, three walks and the go-ahead run.

Garrett Juergens started for Sullivan and went two innings. He gave up three earned runs, struck out three and walked two.

Josh Wiese relieved Juergens with the bases loaded in the third.

Sullivan scored two in the third when Miller drew a walk and scored on a double by Austin Frye.

McReynolds hit a two-out single to right, scoring Frye for a 2-0 lead.

Juergens gave up a single and walk in the first, but pitched around it. He retired Washington in order in the second, then gave up a walk, single and hit batter. 

Wiese struck out Joe Hackman and walked Rett Corley to score Thies. After a strikeout of Joe Bauer, Trevor Rinne lined a bases-clearing double to center to put Washington on top 4-2.

Sullivan went back on top in the fourth. 

Blayten Nolie drew a two-out walk and Miller blasted a two-run triple to center, tying the game at 4-4. Frye walked and McKinney poked an opposite field single to bring in Miller and put the Eagles ahead 5-4.

Washington tied the game on a passed ball with two outs in the fifth.

Thies took over in the sixth and gave up a one-out single to Miller. He couldn’t find the plate from there and proceeded to walk the next three batters, including the bases-loaded free pass to McReynolds.

Wiese came back out for the sixth and walked Kaden Uetz to lead off. Miller took over from there. 

Weaver dropped a sacrifice bunt to push Uetz to second. Thies drew a walk, but Miller fanned Luke Kroeter and Levi Weber to end the inning.

His dominance continued in the seventh as he struck out Hackman and Corley on six pitches. Bauer went down swinging for the final out.
