Sam W. Sykes

Sam W. Sykes, age 33 of Bourbon, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, MO.

Sam William was born on May 14, 1986 in Rolla, MO, the son of Anthony “Sonny” and Bridget Joann (Bolbat) Sykes. He attended Sullivan Schools and went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Marine Corps for two years. Sam met and fell in love with Betsy Bouckaert, and they were united in marriage on October 1, 2011. Sam was a proud member of the IBEW Local 2. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his work as a groundman operator. Sam was a free spirit who enjoyed making people laugh. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gigging; however, spending time with his kids was most important. Sam had received Christ as his Savior and was baptized this past year at the Ridge Church in Sullivan. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Sam is survived by his wife, Betsy (Bouckaert) Sykes of Bourbon, MO; four children: Luke, Maddie, Piper and Emilia, all of the family home; his mothers, Bridget Sykes and Marianne Fabiano of Union, MO; two brothers, Eric Shumaker of Chicago, IL and Anthony Sykes of Washington, MO; one sister, Onna Sykes of Sullivan, MO; grandmother, Anna Mae Bolbat of Chicago, IL; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sonny Sykes; and his grandpa, Leonard Bolbat.

Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Ridge Church in Sullivan, with Pastor Matt Dudley officiating.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Ridge Church.
