George M. Wilkinson, age 78, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

George Melvin, known as Bennie, was born on December 16, 1940 in Kansas City, MO, the son of the late Roy J. and Margaret I. (Ellis) Wilkinson. His family moved to the Arnold area, which is where he attended school. In 1959, the Wilkinson family made their home in Sullivan, where Bennie remained until his passing. Bennie honorably served his country in the United States Navy from November 1963 to October 1967. He was united in marriage to Judith Ann Blanton on July 25, 1964 and they were blessed with two children, Donna and Carl. Bennie and Judy recently celebrated 55 years of marriage together. Bennie was employed by General Motors from 1959 to 1987. He was able to take an early retirement and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bennie also liked going to the Casino and enjoyed watching game shows. He was known as quite the character by his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He had a quick wit and great one-liners. Bennie was of the Catholic Faith and will be missed by his family and many friends. 

Bennie is survived by his wife, Judy Wilkinson of Sullivan, MO; two children, Donna Freie and husband, Jeff, of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Carl Wilkinson and wife, Donna, of Bourbon, MO; two step-grandchildren, Steven Freie and Kevin Freie; two sisters, Verna Bartel of Sullivan, MO, and Patsy McMillian of Sullivan, MO; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy J. and Margaret I. Wilkinson; three brothers: Joseph, Robert and William “Gerry” Wilkinson; and one sister, Mary Coleman.

Funeral services were conducted 6 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Erik Williams as the officiant. Cremation followed.

Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. and 6:30 -8 p.m. on Friday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Memorial contributions, in Bennie’s memory, may be made to:  St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
