Dorothy Anna Hardecke

Dorothy Anna (Banken) Hardecke went to her heavenly home on October 17, 2020 at the age of 89 years. She was born at Sullivan, MO on May 4, 1931 to George and Selma Banken.

Dorothy was raised on a farm on Seminary Road near Sullivan, MO, until 1946 when her family moved to Los Angeles, CA, where her family operated a neighborhood grocery store.

Dorothy graduated from Manual Arts High School and L.I.F.E. Bible College of Los Angeles, CA, with a degree in Christian Education. She was employed by North American Aviation in Los Angeles.

On Oct 29, 1954 Dorothy was united in marriage to Alvin Hardecke at the Goodyear Foursquare Church in Los Angeles and they eventually made their home on the Hardecke Family Farm in Sullivan, MO. Four children came to bless their home: Ron, Lonna, Glenda, and Earla.

Dorothy was a homemaker until the children were grown. She was active in the Boone Creek Extension Club, a 4-H leader and enjoyed volunteering at the Sullivan Fair. Alvin and Dorothy helped organize the Nazarene Church in Sullivan, where they worshipped and served for over 52 years. Dorothy enjoyed teaching Sunday School there. After her children were grown, she worked as a teacher at Head Start and Little Friends pre-school. She was also a LaLeche League counselor and leader. She deeply appreciated her relationship with the Lord and her loving family. She took great joy in gardening, canning, raising flowers (especially iris), and taking pictures. Dorothy was patriotic and enjoyed following current political events.

Dorothy is survived by one son, Ron Hardecke and wife Krista of Owensville, MO; three daughters: Lonna McBride and husband Alan of Salem, MO, Glenda Kinaman and husband Brad of Paola, KS, and Earla Meek and husband Dan of Newark, OH; twenty grandchildren: Jim Hardecke, Rachel Hardecke and husband Peter Hayes, Anna Jahnsen and husband Eri, Laura Hardecke, Kyle Hathman and wife Jaclyn, Kayla Mahurin and husband Brandon, Korey Hathman and Codee, Kathy Huff and husband Korey, Skylar and Reagan Amonette, Blake Jensen, Abby McBride, Nick Hardecke, Jaedyn and Leighton, Hannah, Chad and Grace Kinaman, Sarah and Bethany Meek; ten great-grandchildren: Emmitt and Carter Hathman, Brayden, Trace, Mason and Brynlee Mahurin, Ryker and Norah Huff, Kolt Hathman, and Nova Amonette; two brothers, Roland Banken and wife Pat of Canoga Park, CA, and Robert Banken and wife Gloria of Tacoma, WA; a special caregiver, Barbara Rhoads; and other relatives and many friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Alvin; and her parents, George and Selma Banken.

Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan, with Mr. Dan Meek and Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Dutch Hill Cemetery in Sullivan. 

Visitation was held from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan. 

Expressions of sympathy may be given to Samaritan’s Purse.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Sullivan.
