Carl Barton, age 85, of Sullivan, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital of Sullivan, MO.

Carl I. Barton was born on July 25, 1934 in Centerville, MO, the son of Houston and Alice Mae (Sutton) Barton. He was united in marriage to Doris (Barker) on August 29, 1961 and the two remained married until his death 58 years later. Carl was an affectionate and loving father to their four children. He was a hard worker who provided for his family. Carl was a teamster for Tucker Freight Lines for a number of years and later in life worked as chief engineer for West County Shopping Center in St. Louis County.

In his youth, he loved camping, fishing and watching cowboy movies. He was an avid reader and as a child, he loved comic books. As he grew older, he became interested in detective stories and Louis L’Amour Western novels. He faithfully watched “Jeopardy” twice a day, every day. He loved to travel and always headed west for his trips.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris; two sons, Doug Barton and his wife, Amy of Orlando, FL and Clay Barton of Arnold, MO; two daughters, Sherry Barton of Scottsville, KY and Clementine Carbery and her husband, Kevin of Festus, MO; 6 grandchildren:  Clay Barton Jr., Brandon Barton, Gabrielle Barton, Holly Carbery, Heidi Carbery and Drake Barton; a great-grandchild, Nora Barton; a brother, Ronald Barton and his wife, Viki of Pilot Knob, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Everett Barton and Charles Barton; and three sisters:  Loretta Holland and infant sisters, Sheila and Stella.

A Memorial Service was conducted 6 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan, officiated by Pastor Ryan Martin.  

Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan.
