Roof Top Food Drive Just Weeks Away

The Sullivan Chamber of Commerce, KTUI Radio, Sullivan Independent News 21st annual Thanksgiving Roof Top Ford Drive will be held on Friday, November 1, beginning at 7:30 a.m. from there Meramec Community Mission, 200 West Main and downtown Bandstand/Gazebo.

This year will see Sam Scott, Shawna Speaks and James Bartle along with a number of others attempting to fill a trailer full of food for the mission.

Bartle will sit atop the mission roof until enough money or food has been collected to fill the trailer while Scott and Speaks will be broadcasting from the bandstand.

“We continue to grow this food drive each and every year through the support of individuals, businesses, churches and organizations in our community,” said Bartle. “When we started this years ago we wanted to be able to help the mission help families get through the harsh winters and make it to the spring with plenty of food to help.”

Bartle stated that many business and organizations often challenge each other to see who can raise the most money or food for the food drive which has always brought about some good spirited fun.

“It is awesome to see our business community, manufacturing community, organizations and churches become involved in this program and our schools as well,” said Bartle. “Chris Dace has spoke of the importance of the event each year for the mission and we are honored to have done so well through the years and its all because of our community coming out.”

The group is assisted each year by Sullivan Fire Department who provides manpower too unload the food being donated into the trailer which is generously supplied each year from First State Community Bank.

“Those who make monetary donations may see their dollars stretch even further for the mission as most people may or may not be aware of the fact that their buying power for $1 is magnified $10 through the programs they can use to stock the food pantry so whether its monetary donations for the roof top drive that day or food items it will all be beneficial,” concluded Bartle.

Those who would like to take part in this food drive or gather more information may contact Sullivan Chamber at 573-468-3314 or Meramec Community Mission at 573-468-5813.
