Robertsville Man’s Body Located, Identified

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday that a Robertsville man who had been declared missing April 16 was found deceased.

The body of Shelbert Grant was located May 5 near Highway N and Finney Road in Robertsville.

Franklin County Sheriff Steven Pelton said the medical examiner’s office made positive identification of Gant on May 18.

His next of kin have been notified.

No foul play is suspected and Gant’s death is considered an active case until the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office provides an official cause of death.

Pelton said that could take several weeks.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Gant’s family,” Pelton said in a press release.

Gant was reported missing April 16 from his residence in the 1800 block of Drake Lane.

He had been observed outside of his home in the morning hours of April 14, but later that day, family came to visit Gant, who was gone.

The residence was unlocked and several personal items, including keys, were left on the kitchen table.

Members of the sheriff’s office searched the residence and wooded area surrounding it on April 21 and did not locate Gant or find any evidence of his disappearance.

The family did not suspect foul play.
