Mobile Home Total Loss To Fire Tuesday Morning

Sullivan firefighters, Missouri Baptist Ambulance personnel and Sullivan Police scrambled quickly Tuesday morning, November 26, during a mobile home fire at 166 Modern Street, in which first responders initially believed the home occupant may still be trapped inside as smoke bellowed from the home at 9:06 a.m.

According to Sullivan Fire Captain Ray Enloe, he and firefighter John Strothkamp made entry into the front of the mobile home and encountered a lot of furniture and other items blocking their entrance into the home at which time the firefighters exited the front of the mobile home and proceeded to a rear door in an attempt to access the fire and extinguish the blaze.

It was at this point firefighters learned that the renter of the home had left his truck at the residence and had rode with another individual to work and was not home at the time of the fire, according to law enforcement.

Firefighters continued to extinguish the fire and extensive overhaul was conducted to extinguish any hot spots in the home and crews then conducted a search of the property where they did not locate anyone inside and also determined that the cause of the fire could not be ruled out as accidental.

The rental home was believed to have been a total loss from the fire in which eight firefighters responded with five different apparatus used to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters estimated that they used 1,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire in the 720 square-foot mobile home believed to have been constructed in the 1970s.

The name of the renter and property owner were not available in the fire report.
