Sullivan FFA Completes Busy October

Juniors and Seniors from the Sullivan FFA chapter had the chance to attend Ozark Farm Fest’s FFA Day on October 4. Ozark Farm Fest is a huge agricultural trade show, including exhibits from hundreds of companies and farms. Despite the long drive, everyone had a good time and learned many new things about agricultural industry.
The October monthly meeting was held on October 15 at the Franklin County FFA Farm. The meeting began with the Greenhands participating in a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt consisted of questions based on forestry, trap shooting, the chapter officers, and the farm house/cabin on the property. Congratulations to Mr Richter’s 7th hour Ag I class on winning. After the scavenger hunt, members enjoyed a bonfire, guitar playing, hot dog/smore roasting, and a hayride around the FFA Farm.
Twenty members also had the opportunity to attend National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. We left the school in the morning on October 30, to start the seven hour bus ride. While at the convention, members attended sessions at the Lucas Oil Stadium, the National FFA Talent Show which also took place at the Lucas Oil Stadium, and the career show. At the talent show, some of the attendees had the chance to meet Amberly Snyder, a barrel racer who is paralyzed from the waist down. The career show is a big hall where various colleges, companies, and FFA chapters set up a booth and talk about what they do. On Friday of convention, members went to the Blue Room. The Blue Room is a room where agricultural companies show how they help make farming and agriculture easier through technology. Friday night, everyone enjoyed watching the bull/bronc riding, trick riding, and other entertainment at the rodeo. National Convention is always incredibly busy, with late nights and early mornings. But, it is also enjoyable, educational, and our most anticipated event of the year.
I think we can all agree, October was a busy month, but it was successful. Much appreciation to all you have made it successful and we are all looking forward to November.
