The Sullivan FFA chapter held their monthly meeting on September 24, at Rohrer Park. The meeting started out with the three Ag Science I classes, comprised of mostly freshmen, competing in games that the FFA officers led. Included was a timed obstacle course: wood splitting, hay stacking, land skiing, and a pedal tractor obstacle course. The winning class with the best time won a reward. Congratulations to Mr. Kramme’s first hour Ag I class for winning!

After the games, chapter president Tyler Hesse led a short meeting about upcoming events, including National FFA Convention, Ozark Farm Fest, Wurdack Farm Field Trip, the Greenhand Leadership Conference and FFA Rituals Contest. Tyler also spoke about the annual FFA fundraiser.  The chapter is selling fruit, cookie dough, and a variety of meats. If you would like to buy any items please contact Mr. Kramme at krammet@sullivaneagles.org, Mr. Richter at richterr@sullivaneagles.org, any FFA member.  You can also call the high school and we will gladly get your name down for whatever item(s) you would like. The proceeds of the fundraiser all go to support our activities throughout the year.

The dinner for the night was cooked by Mr. Richter and Mr. Kramme and the brats and burgers were made in the SHS food lab by Mr. Kramme’s Food Science class. After dinner, everyone enjoyed games of cornhole, basketball, singing karaoke, or sitting around and talking to their friends.

Overall, the meeting was a success, with a bigger turn out than in years past.  Much appreciation goes out to Brad Rohrer and his family for the use of the park, Heartland Farms for letting us use the pedal tractor, and to everyone who made the meeting a success.

On September 25, the Greenhands (first year FFA members) of the chapter attended the Greenhand Leadership Conference in Hermann. The Greenhands got their first taste of what FFA really is all about. Greenhands from all over Area XIV were split into different groups and participated in sessions with the 2019-2020 Area XIV officers. They got to meet Greenhands from other schools, and participate in a variety of leadership sessions. The 2019-2020 Sullivan FFA officer team also competed in the Rituals contest the same night, where they delivered the official FFA opening and closing ceremonies.
