The Good Shepherd

Dear Editor:

The Good Shepard. In the tenth chapter of the book of John we learn that Jesus is the Good Shepard, but is he my Good Shepard? Who am I following? What if I am following someone besides Jesus? Am I a part of His flock or am I a part of another flock? Whose voice do I recognize? That is the very important question, the answer of which affects me both while here on Earth and throughout eternity.

In John 10:2-5a we read, “The one who enters the door is the Shepard of the sheep. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought all his own outside, he goes ahead of them. The sheep follow him because they recognize his voice. They will never follow a stranger, instead hey will run away from him, because they don’t recognize the voice of strangers.”

So how do we hear the voice of Jesus? The voice of Jesus is heard through his teachings found in the Bible and also through the teachings of the Holy Spirit filled apostles as we read and study our New Testaments. The only way I can be sure I am following Jesus is to read, study and obey the Word of God as found in my Bible. Then I will know that Jesus is my Shepard. May we become so familiar with God’s Word that we will know if we are following Jesus or a stranger.

“My sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow.” John 10:27.
