Sales Tax Up Nearly 10% In September

Crawford County’s general revenue sales tax was up nearly 10% in September.

The county collected $233,981.06, up from $212,939.09 last year.

Sales tax has been up in six of nine months compared to 2019, with a total of $2,071 million collected so far.

The county collected $2.175 million in 2019.

Revenue dipped year-over-year in August by 6%, the first time that occurred since February.

As the COVID-19 pandemic began and unemployment rose, so did revenue, due to the $600 boost to unemployment.

After dropping by 16% in January and 5% in February, collections soared from March through July.

Revenue was up 10% in March, 39% in April, 15% in May, 35% in June and 62% in July.

The county never brought in less than $185,000 in a month during that time period.

Revenue dipped in August by 6%, but the county still collected $293,641. 

It was down from a record-high $314,524 collected in August 2019.

The law enforcement and capital improvement sales taxes were up 9% in September after falling 4% in August.

The county brought in more than $110,000 for each of the funds.

Through 2020, the county has collected $995,846.24, just shy of the $1,043 million that was brought in during the entirety of 2019.

Revenues have dipped year-over-year just twice in 2020. 

It was down 14% in January.
