Lafferty, Nelson Sworn Into Positions

Dave Lafferty was sworn in as mayor and John Nelson was sworn in as Ward 1 Alderman on Tuesday at Bourbon City Hall.

Lafferty, who had been a Ward 1 Alderman since 2017, was sworn in as the replacement for Danny Skaggs. Skaggs passed away September 12 following five years in office.

Nelson was added to the board to fill one of the two vacancies in Ward 1.

Former Ward 1 Alderman Thomas Jordan resigned at the end of July and the city had yet to find a replacement.

Skaggs had reportedly been working to find someone.

There is still an opening and after he was sworn in, Lafferty told the board he was open to hearing any suggestions.

Lafferty will serve through at least April 2020 at which time the seat will open for a two-year term. The term was set to expire next year.

Ward 2 Alderwoman Mary Heywood was voted as mayor pro tem. Heywood served as mayor from 1997 through 2006.

Moment Of Silence

The board held a moment of silence for Skaggs prior to getting into business.

Skaggs, who became mayor in 2014, was previously an alderman. He was a longtime Bourbon resident.

Dedication

The Bourbon Boosters dedicated the stage at Festival Park to Skaggs at the Fall Festival on September 13. Skaggs helped work on the stage, which was built in 2018.

It was agreed to have a plaque placed on it to memorialize Skaggs.
