District Will Apply For CARES Act Funds For Several Projects

The Crawford County R-1 School District will apply for CARES Act funding for several projects.

Bourbon already received approval for $40,651 in the first round of funding. Superintendent Dr. Kyle Gibbs said their next application will pay for a bus tracking system, an air system and personal protection equipment.

The bus tracking system is a mobile app that will track attendance, adjust times if there is a stall and share live tracking with parents.

Gibbs said the system will provide Wi-Fi on the buses.

The district was expected to have the new Global Plasma Solutions’ ionization system installed this week.

“That system will go into operation immediately and start filtering out viruses,” Gibbs said. “We hope it will help with flu season and improve air quality.”

The cost of the GPS system is $85,000.

Ions are dispersed into the air and combine with particles or pathogens, which cluster together and become easier to filter out.

GPS says the ions will disrupt the pathogens and render them inactive and unable to replicate. The technology also purifies the air and reduces the amount required from outside. GPS says its system can save on energy costs.

Gibbs said the district also will include personal protection equipment in its next application.

Bourbon was one five taxing entities in Crawford County that were approved for funding by the CARES Act committee.

The district received $29,507 in virtual learning supplies, $6,727 for cleaning supplies and $4,422 for other supplies.
