Brian Witt Named Middle School Principal Of The Year

The South Central Region of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals is pleased to announce that the 2019-2020 Middle School Principal of the Year is Brian Witt, Bourbon Middle School Principal.

Witt has served as an administrator for the last seven years at Crawford County R-I School District. He spent five years as a Middle School Principal and five years as a High School Athletic Director, as well. Witt has implemented professional learning community (PLC) at the middle school the last five years, developing and leading teams that work collaboratively that focus on student learning.

This year, Witt has worked with DCI at the middle school, with a focus on using data to drive decision making with the middle school staff. Over the past five years, Witt leads the school in the implementation of the one-to-one initiative by establishing a blended learning environment for students to increase their opportunities outside the classroom walls.

Witt reestablished the Positive Behavior Interventions of Support (PBIS) program at the middle school, decreasing discipline by almost 50 percent in the last five years. Through the use of PBIS, the school scored 100 on its School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET) observations. Witt has implemented a PBIS handbook, with weekly lessons taught, and he leads his team in modeling the program to his students and staff. In addition, Witt provides support and leadership to the BMS tier two team, which focuses on check-in and check-out, check and connect, and mentors for students who need additional support to be successful.

Witt is an outstanding principal. He is an advocate for developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members. His school spirit and school pride are like no other, and he works hard to provide a positive and safe learning environment for his students and staff. He believes in every one of his students and pushes them to be their very best every single day!
