Bourbon Offering Online Learning As Option During 2020-21

Students in the Bourbon School District will have online learning as an option during the 2020-21 year.

Bourbon was previously looking at either a five-day or four-day school week, but has instead chosen to offer an online option.

Parents and/or guardians must decide by Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Students who attend in person are expected to be in attendance five days per week.

For students who do online instruction, they must attend live class sessions each day

Bourbon will issue Chromebooks, but families are responsible for having sufficient internet capability.

Students who opt out of in-person learning will be ineligible for extra-curricular activities.

Whichever option a family chooses must be committed to for an entire semester.

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Clubs may host virtual meetings with those students if they choose.

In kindergarten through sixth grade, students are to log in for math, writing, reading and social studies. They will hear the teacher’s lesson and class discussion.

Students can ask for assistance during virtual live sessions or through online communication.

Supplemental digital lessons also will be posted for students.

Special area teachers such as art, music and physical education will post weekly activities on their Google classroom sites for students to access.

At the seventh through 12th grade levels, students will be directed by teachers the length of time required to be present for a virtual live session.

Students will be assigned elective courses to match their needs, which will be a combination of course content provided by the teacher or courses provided through PEAK Education.

Core classes like English, science, math and history will be available with the same curriculum and standards as offered for in-person learning.

Elective courses will be limited, but still be comprehensive.

Materials necessary for learning that can’t be shared electronically will be available for pickup on the Monday of each week.

Students must submit work electronically or bring it to the school office.
