Volleyball Dominates Fatima In Three Sets
Sullivan’s volleyball team (9-9) crushed the Comets (5-11-3) in three sets: 26-24, 25-18 and 25-16 on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The Lady Eagles delivered their fourth consecutive sweep, having not won four or more shutouts since 2019.
First Set
Ava Blankenship started Sullivan on top 2-1 with a kill and a block. Allie Brune also unleashed spikes over the net, and Abby Record landed aces to keep the Lady Eagles ahead.
The Comets then erupted a streak of five unanswered points to trail just 16-15.
Head coach Sarah Rochleau called a timeout to try to ice Fatima. Stevi Saling blasted spikes to try to hold them off.
The Comets continued to steal the lead, but the Lady Eagles refused to throw in the towel. Ava Todd hit a roll shot to tie, and Blankenship evened out the scoreboard with a block.
The Comets shot ahead 24-22, forcing Sullivan to call another timeout. Blankenship came in clutch with a kill and teamed up with Brune on a double block to tie. Fatima gave up the final two points on errors, and Brune made the game-winner.
Second Set
Saling’s spike began Sullivan with a 1-0 lead. She and Blankenship blocked the Comets, and Head landed aces to soar the Lady Eagles ahead.
Brune continued to send kill shots over the net.
Record and Head joined together on a block for the nineteenth point.
Kelsie Hansel made a highlight by scoring on a spike, and Andi Giebler served up aces.
Fatima tried to mount another comeback, but Sullivan stayed strong and won their second match.
Third Set
Sydney Montee started the Lady Eagles off strong. She blasted a kill and landed an ace to push them to a 5-1 lead.
The Comets rallied from behind to tie with six points; Blankenship broke it with a kill, followed by Head and Record, who fired spikes.
Brune dominated as a server with two back-to-back aces.
Chloe Carson made low digs, leading to clutch scores, including one by Hansel.
Record made the final kill in the coffin to complete Sullivan’s fourth straight sweep.
