Track And Field Leaps Over Conference Competition

The varsity Track and Field team made history at the Four Rivers Conference tournament in Hermann on Monday, Apr. 29.

Sullivan’s boys clinched their conference championship since 1971 with 149 points, while the Lady Eagles took third with 126 points.

Co-head coach Terry Wood could not have been prouder of each individual’s effort on that Monday. He stated, “It’s what you hope for as a coach at the high school level, right? We train diligently for the athletes to improve week over week and then put it to their best efforts on the day. The kids performed amazingly well, and I love seeing it!!”

First Team All-Conference

Mariah Denney was named Girls Athlete of the Meet and was awarded first-team all-conference for winning three of her four events. She shattered her personal and third school record of the track season at 5:15.29 during the 1600-meter run. M. Denney also clinched first place in the 800-meter run at 2:24.87 and the 3200-meter run at 12:16.60.

Mariah’s brother, Abram Denney, was awarded the Boys Athlete of the Meet. He was the conference champion in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.15, the 1600-meter run at 4:31.82 and the 3200-meter run at 10:42.03.

Robert York made history by breaking a Four Rivers record of 52.69 meters in his first-place finish in the javelin contest.

Wyatt Kraus took first place in the 100-meter dash and inked a new personal record of 11.32 seconds.

Zechariah Beagle set a new season-best time of 52.51 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

Eva Heady marked a new personal record in the triple jump at 10.97 meters.

In the 4x200-meter relay, Sullivan’s squad consisted of R. York, Matthew Mallory, Beagle and Kraus, who ran a season-best of 1:32.49.

Then A. Denney, Colton Brendel, Dock Thomure and Beagle were the champions of the 4x400-meter relay, marking a season-best of 3:33.45.

Second Team All-Conference

Heady was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash, making a season-best of 26.72 seconds.

M. Denney marked 1:01.63 in her second-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Breanna Mayberry took 2nd in the pole vault competition at 2.6 meters.

Beagle clinched 2nd in the 200-meter dash at 23.64 seconds.

Thomure set a season-best time of 53.16 seconds in his second-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Kraus was the conference runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.20 seconds.

Honorable Mention All-Conference

Karlee Head placed third in the 200-meter dash at 27.10 seconds and in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 1:03.08.

Heady finished 3rd in the 100-meter dash at 13.15 seconds.

Brendel took 3rd in the pole vault event with a distance of 3.35 meters.

Cameron York inked a season-best of 40.12 meters in his third-place finish in the discus throw competition.
