Sam Summers won Male Athlete of the Year and Dorie Richardson won Female Athlete of the Year at Sullivan High School.

Male Athlete of the Year

Summers was a three-year letter winner in both football and basketball. He was selected to All-State, Area, Districts and Conferences on the field.

In his senior year as a tight end, Summers received a team-high of 372 yards, 5 touchdowns and was thrown 18 times. Then as a defensive end, he made a total of 37 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. This year in basketball, Summers scored a team-high of 335 points, a field goal percentage of 66.8 and an average of 12.4 points per game.

Next year, he will be attending Missouri Southern State University to continue his football career as a tight end and major in business.

Summers helped the Eagles overcome adversity and make it far into the playoffs during their last year. He claims that, “My passion for football is gonna help me carry over from being successful in high school to being successful in college… Our class had the worst record and as we worked harder, we made it to 11-3 during senior year.”

Female Athlete of the Year

Sophomore Dorie Richardson destroys any competition that she goes against.

In wrestling, she won the Four Rivers championship and finished 6th at the MHSAA State Championship for the 140-weight class. Richardson is also an incredible softball catcher and outfielder, putting out a team-high of 196 outs and 179 put-outs. For soccer, she was selected First-Team All-Conference.

About receiving Female Athlete of the Year, Richardson stated that, “Getting [this award] made me feel like my hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. It doesn’t just take practice to be accomplished in more than one sport, it takes going that extra mile that nobody wants to do... I want to be that person that little girls look up to and show them that they can do anything and be amazing at anything they love and want in life.”

Sam Summers and Dorie Richardson will keep driving teams to victory in the coming years, and be a dominating force in whatever sport they play.
