Sullivan Slays Salem In Quarterfinals

The Eagles have been rolling through their opponents. Sullivan football has won six games in a row and isn't slowing down. Head Coach Eddie Haar has been leading the team to victory, and they now look to extend their season at home against the Owensville Dutchmen. Sullivan shut out the Salem Tigers at home on Friday, 48-0.

In the first quarter, Sullivan took control of the game right away. They received the kickoff and scored on their first drive when Jonathon Martin made a 55 yard run to the endzone. The two point conversion was good after a successful Dominic Ransom run. Sullivan’s defense forced a fumble with Dayton Skaggs picking up the loose ball. Quarterback Gabe Dace ran the ball in the endzone and, after the field goal attempt failed, Sullivan still led, 14-0.

In the second quarter, the Eagles added to their lead. Coach Haar took a timeout with 9:08 on the clock. Martin made a good tackle to bring the Tigers to a fourth down and five. Skaggs stopped them on defense and Sullivan got the ball back. Franky Erxleben ran the ball in the endzone for a twenty-five yard touchdown. This time the extra point was good by Kayden Bryan. Gavin Dace then intercepted the ball back for Sullivan. Gabe Dace ran the ball for around forty yards and Sullivan scored again. Bryan kicked another field goal which meant the running clock would start. Gabe Dace found Jeremiah Rodriguez for a beautiful screen pass, and he ran the ball down the field for twenty yards. Salem’s Head Coach Bryson Barnes took a time out with a little less then five minutes left. Sullivan scored another touchdown when Rodriguez ran the ball in. Ransom tallied another two point conversion. Salem used their last remaining timeouts. Rodriguez blocked Salem’s punt to give Sullivan great field position. Sullivan scored one last touchdown in the first half when Colton Brendel scooped up a fumble in the end zone and Sullivan was up, 42-0.

In the third quarter, Sullivan kept up the domination this time with their backup players and a running clock to start the second half. Ben Goly ran the ball and Sullivan was faced with a third one. The backup quarterback Robert York then ran the ball for around forty yards for the last touchdown of the game and Sullivan shut out the Salem Tigers. The fourth quarter didn’t see another score, but York proved he was ready to take over as starting quarterback with big runs and finding open men. Sullivan was in the red zone with York getting another big first down with a sneak. They took a time out with a little over four minutes but Salem’s defense got a break and stopped the Eagles. Sullivan still were victorious, 48-0.

York had the most rushing yards with 113. The starting quarterback had the second most rushing yards with 62. Erxleben had 53. Rodriguez finished with 28.

Martin finished with 58 receiving yards and Rodriguez followed 42.
