Sullivan Hosts Peoples Bank Holiday Classic
St. James left Sullivan High School in high spirits after four-peating in the 13th Annual Peoples Bank Holiday Classic. They beat Owensville 37-25 in a championship rematch. Lydia Kemnitzer received the Bill Wallis Most Valuable Player Award after leading St. James to their fourth consecutive title.
The Lady Tigers tipped off the tournament on Monday, Dec. 16, beating Miller Career 65-42. St. Francis Borgia followed with a 50-14 rout over Steelville. Then Owensville swept Salem 58-10, and St. Pius X defeated Sullivan 47-34.
Steelville and the Lady Eagles clinched their spots in the consolation round the following Wednesday. The Lady Cardinals crushed Miller Career 72-40, and Sullivan dominated Salem 58-25.
St. James and the Dutchgirls also punched their championship tickets that night. The Lady Tigers edged out St. Francis Borgia 49-43, while Owensville moved past St. Pius X 50-36.
Kicking off Friday, Salem clawed out Miller Career 66-37 to finish in seventh place.
The Lady Eagles followed with a 41-30 victory over Steelville to take consolation.
The Borgia Knights then dueled the St. Pius X Lancers, winning it 49-37 for third place.
St. James and Owensville capped off a week of hoop action in a nail-biting championship. The Lady Tigers four-peated with a 37-25 win.
