Sullivan Falls To Tough Summit In Four
The Rockwood Summit Lady Falcons came to town with a vengeance over their loss at the Oakville Tournament. The Lady Eagles, however, were recovering from their third place finish over the weekend. The Lady Falcons won the first set by eight. Sullivan bounced back and took the second set, 25-19. The third set was the toughest battle and Summit came out on top, 26-24. The Lady Falcons defeated Sullivan in the fourth set to win the game, 25-16.
Summit took the lead by two in the first set. Sullivan bounced back, but the Lady Falcons kept the pressure. The score was 10-5 after Olivia Witt dove but missed and Head Coach Sarah Rochleau took a time out. Sullivan scored when Maci Nolie set Emma Brune up for a beautiful spike. Brune and Stevi Salling made a huge block and the score was 16-13. Coach Rochleau took another time out to talk to her team when they were down, 21-16. The Lady Falcons won the first set though, 25-17.
Sullivan bounced back in the second set. Sullivan tied the game right away at one and took the lead. Summit tied the score at five and the Lady Eagles took the lead back when Nolie set Brune up for a score. The Lady Falcons tied the score at eight, but Sullivan broke the tie when Nolie scored on a defensive hit. Nolie set Raegan Johnson up to add another score, 11-8. The Lady Falcons took a time out when they were down, 14-10. Nolie set Carley Godfrey up and Sullivan secured the victory in the second set. 25-19.
The Lady Falcons drew first blood in the third set, but Sullivan bounced back when Witt spiked the ball back. Sullivan were up, 10-4, and Summit’s Head Coach Courtney Stemmler took a time out to speak with her team. Summit landed a score, but Sullivan snapped back. The Lady Falcons were starting to bridge the gap when they landed a spike and the score was 18-13. Coach Rochleau took a time out when Sullivan was up, 22-17. Sullivan’s home crowd began to get loud after a long volley and Sullivan was up by three, 23-20. Summit battled hard and Sullivan took another time out when they were up by one, 24-23. The Lady Falcons bounced back and were victorious, 26-24.
The Lady Eagles fell in the fourth and final set. Sullivan scored the first two points of the game. Summit tied the game at six and took the lead by two before Sullivan scored again. Coach Rochleau called the first time out of the set when Sullivan was down, 12-7. Sullivan snapped back after the pause, but Summit scored again. After a long volley, Nolie and Brune showed good hustle and Coach Rochleau called another time out when the score was 18-10. Sullivan scored their 16th point when a ball was called out on the Lady Falcons. Sullivan fell, 25-16.
Brune led in kills with 18. She was followed by Witt with 14. Witt also tallied eight points, one assist, and an ace. Saling secured five kills. Johnson had three kills and an ace. Ava Blankenship tallied two kills. Nolie led in assists with 38. She also notched two kills, four aces and eight points.
