Sullivan Ends Season With 50-13 Loss To St. James
The Lady Eagles (7-20) capped off their season against the top-seeded St. James (20-6) in the Class 4 District 3 semifinals on Wednesday, Feb. 28. This fierce Lady Tigers squad, which first swept Sullivan 50-13 on Feb. 5, later clinched the district title.
Sullivan’s head coach, Jordan Flora, is proud of his squad for continuing to fight through an uphill battle all season. He stated, “This year, I was extremely proud of how hard our girls played every night. We were undersized all season, and every night, we would compete and, for the most part, hold teams below their scoring average. Next year, we return [with] a lot of girls with Varsity experience. Our JV had a really good season, and we expect a few of those girls to step up and play some Varsity next year for us as well. I hope our girls realize that we can compete with any team if we work hard and do the little things. I really enjoyed coaching this group of girls.”
Freshman guard Karlee Head led the Lady Eagles with 7 points, shooting 3-5 from the field. She also tallied three rebounds and two steals.
Junior forward Rayna Claus had a team-high four rebounds. She also collected a point and a steal.
Junior forward Cora Shetley racked up three rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Senior guard Delaney George grabbed four rebounds and 2 points.
Junior guard Molly Lohden got three rebounds and an assist.
Freshman guard Olivia Barton picked up a rebound and steal.
Senior guard Hayli Venable and sophomore guard Avery Merkel had one rebound and assist.
