Sullivan Eagles Wrestling Looking Ahead To Season
Head Coach Carl Lawrence is in positive spirits regarding the upcoming wrestling season. The boy’s and girl’s wrestling teams have progressed and have a tough impending schedule this season.
The girl’s wrestling practices started last week with a strong set of girls showing up. The practices, on average, had about fifteen strong wrestlers in the room.
“We are looking to set some girl’s program history this year with one of the team goals winning the conference tournament for the first time,” Coach Lawrence said. “We also have hopes for state qualifiers this year which I, as a coach, believe will happen.”
The Sullivan girl’s wrestling team has some great, strong wrestlers returning this season. Dorie Richardson, Maria Schatzl, and Reya Bristow, are just a few returning wrestlers that the Lady Eagles have. The ladies also look to welcome some new faces to the program.
The girl’s Head Coach Brad Landwehr has constructed the girl’s wrestling schedule to have more competition in their class and to take the next step in making the girl’s wrestling program a true powerhouse.
The boys will begin practicing this week.
"We have a tremendous number of boys wrestling this year," Coach Lawrence continued. "We have a very tough and experienced freshman class coming in this season."
Most of the boys, Coach Lawrence has coached in the youth program and will match the chemistry well this season. The team has six returning state qualifiers and one returning state medalist, which is a great way to start a season. The boy's schedule has been updated for a state-quality team, so the Sullivan boys will see every team in the top ten teams of class 2 at different points of the season while also dueling with the two-time returning state champions, Pleasant Hill, right before districts.
Some of their returning key wrestlers will be state medalist Jordan Rice and state qualifiers Carter Blankenship, Eli Peregoy, Dominic Ransom, Adam Peregoy and Colton Brendel.
The girl’s wrestling team will kick off their season at the Owensville Tournament on November 18 at Owensville High School at 5 p.m. and the boys will start with a home opener against Washington.
