Sullivan Eagles Win Consolation

 

The Sullivan Eagles faced the Licking Wildcats to win consolation in the St. James tournament on Saturday. After the boys fell to Rolla on Monday, they used he loss as motivation to win. The shooting improved tremendously and was just under 49%. Sullivan defeated Licking, 59-50.

The Eagles struggled in the beginning. Licking outscored Sullivan in the first quarter but not by a lot and the score was 19-11.

Sullivan bounced back right away and Blaine Sappington began to come alive. The Eagles outscored the Wildcats in the second quarter 17-10. At the end of the first half, Sullivan only trailed Licking by one, and the score was 29-28.

Charlie Lohden soared for the Eagles and Sullivan kept the score parade going. They netted basket after basket and outscored Licking in the third quarter, 19-7. Sullivan took the lead and the score was 47-36 to begin the last quarter.

The defense of Sullivan shined all game but really shined in the fourth. They held Licking well and secured the win. Licking outscored Sullivan in the fourth quarter, 14-12, but Sullivan dominated the third and secured the win. The final score was 59-50.

Lohden and Sappington led the team in points with 15. Luke Todd followed with nine points and Kyle Lewis had eight. Logan Watters and Aiden Kirk each scored five points. Gabe Dace netted two points.

Sappington secured eight rebounds and led the team. He secured two assists and one steal. Lohden recorded five rebounds and two assists. Sam Summers got three rebounds. Lewis tallied two rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Gabe Dace made one rebound and three assists. Kirk and Todd each landed one rebound, assist, and steal. Watters walked away with a rebound and an assist on defense.
