Sullivan Capitalizes Against St. James

Sullivan took revenge from their season opening loss on Monday with a statement victory against St. James.

The bats came alive and the Eagles slugged their way past St. James 15-2.

It was the first win for head coach Ian Whitson in an Eagles uniform and it moved Sullivan to the consolation game of the Four Rivers Conference Tournament.

Sullivan scored two runs in the first, three in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and seven in the fifth.

Tyler Hopen was the first Eagle to come across home plate to open up the scoring.

The Tigers tried to answer back in the bottom of the first when Dylan Schacht scored.

The Tigers efforts came up short when Sullivan shut them down with five unanswered runs in the second and third. Both teams scored one run each in the fourth.

The fifth inning was the difference maker in the game when Sullivan scored seven unanswered points. Trey Behrens was the first to land on base when he got hit by the pitch. Seth Valley made it on base and that set up Gavin Schmidt perfectly to score Behrens and Valley on a sacrifce fly. St. James started to sweat as they walked Cambrian Koch and Kaden York landed a huge single. The Tigers walked Dayton Skaggs and the bases were loaded. Koch scored on a wild pitch over the catcher's head. All the runners advanced and another run came across the plate. St. James made a pitching change and brought in Zach Keehn for some relief. Lucas Parsons reached on a dropped ball and Jordan Rice was walked right after and the bases were loaded again. Valley was walked again and the Eagles scored again. St. James brought in Schacht to the mound and Kaleb Keen singled and brought in another Sullivan run before the inning was over.

Parsons earned the victory for Sullivan as he pitched the full five innings and only allowed one walk. He allowed two errors and runs on the game. He sat down the Tigers on five strikeouts.

St. James went through four different pitchers with a combined total of four strikeouts. Luca Giacolone was the losing pitcher and allowed nine errors and runs. He gave up seven hits and five walks.

Behrens and York each went 1-1. Blankenship lead the team in hits as he went 3-3 at the plate. He also scored two RBIs. Schmidt went 3-2 at the plate and scored an RBI. Skaggs was 2-2 and landed an RBI and two doubles. Hopen went 3-1, but brought in to RBIs on a sacrifce. Parsons was also 3-1 and scored an RBI on a walk.
