Sullivan Basketball Slays Pacific Tuesday

The Eagles basketball team has been exceptional all season. This win came just in time, later in the season. Sullivan surged past Pacific, 51-41.

In the first quarter, the game was back and forth. Sam Summers scored the first layup of the game. Gavin Dace tallied another layup and Pacific's Xavier Cox drew their first blood. Aiden Kirk launched a three point basket in and Pacific's Quin Blackburn crashed in three layups to give them the lead. Summers stole the lead back with a layup and Pacific took it again to end the quarter. The Indians were only up by one, 10-9.

In the second quarter, the Eagles secured a good lead to end the first half. Summers grabbed a rebound and shot one in from under the hoop. Gavin Dace jammed in a layup and Drake Gawer sailed in a three point basket. Pacific’s Joey Gebel ensured the Indians were only down by one and Gawer drained another three point basket. Summers netted another layup with forty-five seconds left, 21-15.

In the third quarter, the Indians put up a tougher battle, but Sullivan held the lead. Gabe Dace sailed in another three point basket to start the second half. Blackburn sent in two layups back to back and Gabe Dace netted another two free throws. Sullivan’s Head Coach Dino McKinney took a timeout with a little less then five and a half minutes left. Summers crashed in another layup off the glass and Pacific’s Matt Reincke added two layups with Summers breaking them up in between. Gawer made another big three point basket and drained another one with thirty seconds left in the quarter. Pacific’s Nick Bukowsky finished the quarter with a three point basket of his own but Sullivan still led, 36-32.

In the fourth quarter, Sullivan secured the win on Valentine's night. Summers shot a two point basket and Gabe Dace followed it with a jumping layup. Coach McKinney took another timeout and Summers jammed in a layup when the action resumed. Gavin Dace added two points from the line and Summers and Chris Glaser did the same. Gabe Dace and Summers landed two free throws each and the last layup of the game was scored by Bukowsky. The Eagles were victorious over Pacific, 51-41.

Summers led in points with 19. Gawer followed with 12 points and Gabe Dace had nine. Gavin Dace netted six points and Kirk had three. Glaser finished with two points.

Sullivan’s defense forced nine turnovers and steals. They picked up 17 rebounds and Summers had the most with five. Gawer collected four and Gabe Dace had three. Gavin Dace made two and Seth Valley finished with one.
