Spring Sports Underway At SHS
Sullivan’s spring sports teams are on the field and the season is a little more than a week from being underway.
Practices began across the state Feb. 28.
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team gets the 2022 season started on Friday, March 18 at the Warrenton Tournament.
The Lady Eagles finished 2021 with a 15-11 record.
Sulllivan won four of their last five games to end the season. Their season highlight was the game at home against Dixon with a 7-0 victory.
Maria Schatzl shut out Dixon all eighty minutes. Emily Willman led the team in goals with 20.
Golf
Sullivan's golf team finished with a 3-5 record with Jordan Woodcock competing at state.
The Eagles’ highlight was with their first place victory at the Salem tournament.
Sullivan finished with 372 points and Kaleb White secured first place with a plus twelve over par.
Baseball
The Eagles finished with a 6-15 record in what would be Jason Harbour’s final season in the dugout.
Ian Whitson is the new head coach, coming over from Woodland R-4 in southeastern Missouri.
Whitson is a Steelville High School graduate. He moved on to play at Lindenwood University.
Sullivan will be turning over a chunk of the roster after graduating six seniors in 2021.
The Eagles were reliant on senior hurler JD McReynolds, who powered them on the mound and at the plate.
Sullivan opens the season Friday, March 18 against Pacific as part of the Four Rivers Conference Tournament at Sullivan Bank Ballpark.
Track
Sullivan’s boys and girls track teams begin the season Friday, March 25 at Blair Oaks High School.
Last season, the girls were led by Reagan Thomure and Jaiden Hodges.
Thomure medaled in three events at state — the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.
Hodges medaled in the discus.
Sullivan’s boys had several sectional qualifiers, but were unable to advance anyone to the Class 4 state meet.
