Scholar Bowl Buzzes In Strong Conference Finishes
The junior varsity Eagles swept their conference competition for a championship. Sullivan went undefeated, winning all six of their rounds.
Owensville followed in second with a 3-3 record, while Hermann (2-4) took third and St. James (1-5) rounded out in fourth.
The Eagles crushed St. James 300-120 and 240-50, trounced Owensville 250-100 and 170-80, then dismantled Hermann 300-90 and 240-60.
Sullivan’s Brayden Schroeder won Most Valuable Player in junior varsity. He topped his division with 260 points, averaging 47.27 per match.
Erin Paquin medaled at third with 140 points for the Eagles.
Ryker Owen also finished with all-conference honors, ranking fifth and racking up 100 points.
Beau Jenkins clinched a spot in the top ten. He placed eighth and buzzed in 100 points.
Hallie Head grabbed 20 points for Sullivan, while Gwyneth Little came in clutch on bonuses.
Varsity
Sullivan’s varsity scholar bowl team buzzed in second place at conference. The Eagles won 4-1 of their matches on Saturday, Feb. 22. Hermann High School hosted the Four Rivers Tournament.
New Haven was crowned the varsity conference champions with a 4-1 record. The hosting Bearcats (3-2) finished third, St. Clair (3-2) ranked fourth, Union (2-3) placed fifth, and Owensville (0-5) rounded out at sixth.
The Eagles found themselves on the ropes early on. They first fell short of St. Clair, 290-260. Sullivan then pushed New Haven into overtime but could not win the tiebreaker, losing 290-280.
Despite their struggles, the Eagles refused to throw in the towel and won their final three rounds.
Sullivan upset the Hermann Bearcats for their first victory. They stunned the reigning champions 310-280.
The Eagles later survived another nail-biter, edging past Owensville 190-170. They capped off the tournament with a 330-90 rout over Union.
Sullivan’s Eli Young was named the most valuable player of varsity. The senior led his conference with 430 points, averaging 86 a game.
Robin Griggs buzzed in 50 points, Emma Schebaum tallied 30, Cameron Declue collected 10 and Levi Michael played a crucial role on bonuses.
