Post 18 Seniors Downed By Washington
Sullivan’s Post 18 seniors were downed by Washington Post 218 on Saturday, 11-1.
Post 18 had six hits.
Tyler Hopen, Bryan Payne, Dayton Skaggs, Trey Behrens, J. McReynolds and N. McReynolds all delivered for the seniors.
Behrens, Hopen and Skaggs all doubled.
Hopen started and went five innings. He allowed nine hits, eight runs and two walks.
Bryan Payne pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs, two walks and striking out one.
The game was close until the sixth inning when Washington erupted for six runs.
Post 218 scored two runs in the first, but Sullivan got on the board in the third.
Washington added two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before staging their big sixth inning.
Sullivan had a chance to take an early lead, but missed.
Hopen led off with a double to right and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Sam Paule.
Payne grounded the ball back to Paule. Hopen took off for home and was thrown out.
Sam Turilli, a former Post 18 player, hurt his old team with a leadoff triple in the first. He scored two pitches later on Dane Eckhoff’s single.
Eckhoff scored on an error at second.
N McReynolds hit a one-out single in the third. Hopen walked.
An error by catcher Cody Vondera allowed McReynolds and Hopen to move into scoring position. Payne plated McReynolds with an RBI groundout.
Washington expanded the lead with a two-run fourth inning.
Vondera struck an RBI triple and Turilli doubled, all with two outs. Post 218 led 4-1.
Washington got another two-out run in the fifth on Logan Dieckman’s single.
Sullivan had a chance to cut into the lead in the top half of the sixth.
Payne led off with a single, Skaggs doubled and J McReynolds walked.
Beau Beckett grounded into a fielder’s choice to cut down Payne. Behrens and Lane Blankenship each struck out, ending the threat.
Washington ran away with it from there. They scored five runs before Sullivan could record an out. Jarrett Hamlett scored on a wild pitch with two outs to end the game.
