Post 18 Piles On Runs In Double Header

Sullivan Post 18 dominated Elsberry Post 226 (White) on Saturday, winning 9-1 and 5-2 in a doubleheader.

After the victories, Post 18 stands with a record of 7-5.

Game One

Sullivan scored in the first inning and kept the runs coming.

Dustin Lappe was the winning pitcher who went six innings and recorded a sensational seven strikeouts.

He only gave up five hits and one run.

Cambrian Koch pitched one inning in relief and recorded two more strikeouts.

Seth Valley led off by drilling a double. Kaden Smith hit a successful sacrifice ground out and scored Valley.

After the second out, Dayton Skaggs doubled on a ground ball to left. He was left stranded on base.

In the top of the third, Post 18 extended their lead. After an out, Kaden Smith singled on a line drive to left. Skaggs smacked a hard ground ball and reached on an error. Smith scored on the same error and Skaggs reached second base.

Beau Beckett was walked and Dustin Lappe singled which brought in another run.

Post 18 kept up the domination. Anden Carey hit a ground ball and reached on an error. Carey advanced to second on an error by the pitcher and Isiah Skaggs ground out and advanced Carey.

Carey was scored by Valley, who hit a ground out.

Sullivan was up by four and added another three runs in the fifth inning. Koch drilled a double and he then was advanced on a wild pitch.

The wheels of Koch drove him home on an error by the catcher. Skaggs reached first on a dropped ball. Beckett singled on a ground ball and advanced the runner.

Lappe hit a sacrifice bunt that advanced both runners. Nate McReynolds singled on a hard ground ball that scored a run and advanced Beckett. Beckett was scored in on a sacrifice fly by Carey.

Post 226 scored their only run in the fifth.

Sullivan added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Valley singled on a bunt after an out and Smith was walked. Valley advanced to third on a wild pitch.

He was scored on a sacrifice fly by Koch. Skaggs drilled another double and scored Smith.

Post 18 finished with 11 hits.

Valley, McReynolds, and Skaggs went 2-4. Lappe finished 2-2.

Game Two

Post 18 scored four runs in the fifth to claim a 5-2 victory in the second game.

Post 226 had one run in the first and scored another unanswered run in the third.

Grant Halmick was the winning pitcher who spent seven innings on the mound.

He only gave up two runs on four hits. Halmick hurled an incredible 10 strikeouts.

Sullivan first answered back to Post 226 at the bottom of the third. Elsberry was up 2-0 before Sullivan bridged the gap by one. Carey singled on a fly ball and Alex Toews was walked right after. Valley singled on a bunt that drove in Carey. Toews was advanced on the same play.   

Post 18 secured the win in the bottom of the fifth. After an out, Valley was walked. Smith singled on a ground ball and Valley was advanced.

Koch hit a ground ball and reached on an error. Valley was scored and the game was tied. Post 18 came alive when Dayton Skaggs singled on a ground ball that scored Smith and Koch. Skaggs advanced to third on the throw to home.

Skaggs was scored when Beckett blasted a hard ground ball to left. He then advanced to second on an error.
