Lady Eagles Top Linn, Webster Groves
Sullivan took care of business in their return to the diamond.
Hosting the sixth annual Peoples Bank Back To School Classic, the Lady Eagles began the 2021 season by defeating Linn 7-1 and Webster Groves 4-2 in their first two pool games.
Linn
Freshman Evvie Blankenship threw five no-hit innings to secure a 7-1 victory over the Wildcats.
Blankenship struck out eight, walked one and didn’t allow an earned run.
She needed only 59 pitches.
Kayla Ulrich was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Molly Lohden collected three hits, drove in one and scored.
Dorie Richardson had two hits.
Riley Branson, Jaedin Blankenship, Alexis Funkhouser, Evvie Blankenship and Morgan Braun all had hits. Braun scored twice.
Sullivan scored once in the first, once in the second, three times in the third and twice more in the fifth.
Ulrich crossed the plate in the first on an error.
She doubled home Braun to give the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead in the second.
Evvie Blankenship hit an RBI double and Braun followed with a run-scoring single to increase the lead to 4-0 in the third.
Ulrich smashed her second double, driving home Braun for a 5-0 lead.
In the fifth, Weirich grounded out, scoring Ulrich. Lohden later drove in Jordan Trendle.
Webster Groves
Sullivan jumped on Webster Groves with two runs in the first inning and held on for a 4-2 victory.
The Lady Eagles added single runs in the third and fifth innings.
Three of their runs came on wild pitches.
Webster made a late charge, scoring two in the final inning.
Branson, Sophia Weirich, Jaedin Blankenship and Evvie Blankenship all had two hits.
Branson and Weirich had doubles.
Jaedin Blankenship threw all five innings, struck out six, walked two and gave up five hits.
Sullivan scored two in the first on two wild pitches.
Weirich drove home Branson with an RBI single in the third.
Hayli Venable scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.
Webster finally got on the board with a two-out, two-run homer in the home half of the fifth.
