Lady Eagles Fly Over Pacific

Sullivan has been soaring over opponents this basketball season. This late season win is just what the girls need before going into district play. Sullivan’s win over Pacific on Monday made this their tenth win and came in perfect timing after the road loss to the Lady Shamrocks last week. The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Indians, 48-26.

In the first quarter, Sullivan took the lead early. Pacific’s Molly Prichard and Trinity Brandhorst scored the first four points of the game, but the Lady Eagles answered back with eight points of their own. Dakayla McClain landed two free throws and Abby Peterson swished a three pointer to grab the lead. Kylee McReynolds helped the defense come alive and McClain netted another free throw. Peterson landed two more layups and Olivia Witt ended the quarter from the free throw line. The Lady Eagles had the lead, 12-4.

In the second quarter, the Lady Eagles held the lead by 12. The Lady Indians netted another layup with a little over six minutes left. Pacific’s Jaylynn Miller netted a free throw and Molly Lohden landed an inside basket. Both teams added more free throws and Pacific took a timeout with 3:43 on the clock. Hayli Venable sailed in a three point basket from the left with a little over a minute left. Peterson grabbed two more layups with less then a minute left and Sullivan led, 23-11.

In the third quarter, Pacific was outscored again by Sullivan. Brandhorst landed a layup and Prichard did the same after a Pacific timeout. McClain claimed two free throws and a layup under the basket. Peterson made an amazing steal on defense that led to a drive to the basket. McClain landed another free throw and Sullivan’s Head Coach Jordan Flora took a timeout with a little over two and a half minutes left. The Lady Indians ended the quarter with another layup and the Lady Eagles were up still, 30-17.

In the final quarter, Sullivan secured the win over the Lady Indians. Delaney George sailed in a three point basket and Pacific answered back with one their own. Peterson answered back with a three point basket and George added a free throw. The Lady Indians head coach took a time out with a little over five minutes left and they sank in a layup when the action resumed. Lohden sank a three point basket and Coach Flora took a timeout when Sullivan was up, 40-27. McClain is a master at securing a basket and grabbed two more free throws. McReynolds landed two free throws and Peterson finished the game on a huge fast break. The Lady Eagles secured the win, 48-29.

Peterson led the team in points with 21. McClain followed with 11. Lohden landed five and was followed by George with four. Venable had three and Witt finished with two.

Sullivan’s defense was stellar and forced 16 turnovers. They grabbed 17 steals and collected 38 rebounds. Peterson led in rebounds with 16 and McClain followed with 7. McReynolds and Venable grabbed four each. Lohden had three. Raegan Johnson, Witt and George each had one.
