Lady Eagles Finish Fourth At Back To School Classic
Sullivan took fourth in the Peoples Bank Back To School Classic on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles (3-2) fell to Logan-Rogersville 10-9 in the third-place game.
In a rematch from last season’s Class 3 quarterfinal, Sullivan opened with four runs in the first inning.
Rogersville countered with four runs in the second and third innings to grab an 8-4 lead. The Wildcats had a pair of three-run homers in each inning.
Kayla Ulrich would tie the game at 8-8 with a three-run homer in the third inning.
The Wildcats would go ahead with two runs in the top of the fifth.
Ulrich did her best to keep the Lady Eagles alive, driving in a run in the bottom of the fifth. Sullivan was unable to complete the comeback.
Sullivan stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the first with four straight singles. Ulrich, Riley Branson, Sophia Weirich and Evvie Blankenship all had hits.
With two outs and runners on first and second, Alexis Funkhouser rolled a single to left, driving in Hayli Venable.
The inning ended with Molly Lohden thrown out at third.
Rogersville tied the game in the second.
Two straight singles and an error at shortstop pushed across the first run for the Wildcats.
A game-tying three-run homer followed.
Starter Evvie Blankenship settled down and retired the next two batters to keep the game even.
Sullivan missed an opportunity to go back on top in the second. They loaded the bases with one out, but Rogersville got a strikeout and pop out to end the threat.
The Wildcats scored the go-ahead run in the third on an error, then got another three-run blast to go up 8-4.
Sullivan tied the game in the third.
Lohden led off with a single, Dorie Richardson reached on an error and Funkhouser doubled to left. That plated Lohden and cut the deficit to 8-5.
After a strikeout, Ulrich sent a 1-1 pitch over the fence in center for a game-tying three-run homer.
Logan-Rogersville struck back with a go-ahead double and a squeeze play to go up 10-8.
