Eight Eagles Headed To State

Sullivan Placed Second As Team

 

The Sullivan Eagles hosted a great weekend of wrestling, finished second place in the Class 2 District 1 tournament and qualified eight for the state meet next week at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

The best wrestlers in the district had a great performance and some wrestlers seasons ended.

The top team was Ste. Genevieve with 236.5 points. Sullivan followed with 165. St. Clair finished in third with 155. St. James took fourth with 137. St. Mary's (St. Louis) had 136.5 points and fifth. Owensville made 105.5 points and sixth. Dexter claimed seventh place with 88 points. Kennett was eighth with 68 points.

In ninth place was Central (Park Hills) with 51.5 points. Potosi rounded out the top ten with 40.5 points. University City had 31 points and 11th.

Herculaneum got 12th and 25 points. MICDS was 13th with 13 points. Affton followed in 14th with 7 points. Normandy Collaborative finished in 15th with 2 points.

Carter Blankenship finished in third place in the 106 weight class and will be headed to State. He received a bye in the first round of the championship. He pinned Darick Niebling of Herculaneum at 1:41 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Blankenship was pinned by Karter Worley of Ste. Genevieve at 3:57. He pinned Demetrius Crawford of Normandy Collaborative at 1:41 in the consolation semifinals. He finished in third place when he pinned Samuel Mullins of Central (Park Hills) at 1:52. Luke Marlatt of St. James finished in first.

Curtis Rall's season came to an end for the 120 class. In the first round of the championship he received a bye. Tony Valentine of St. Mary's (St. Louis) pinned him at 49 seconds in the quarterfinals. Rall fell to a 17-10 decision by Creek Hughes of St. Clair in the round two of consolation. Tony Valentine of St. Mary's (St. Louis) took first place.

Eli Peregoy finished in third place and will be headed to state at 126. He received a bye for the first round in the championship. He pinned Shaun Stanfill of St. Clair at 4:30 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Peregoy was pinned bu Eric Harmon of Dexter at 2:40. He had a quick pin at 28 seconds over Cole Crocker of Central (Park Hills) in the consolation semifinals. Peregoy made another quick pin at a minute to claim third place over Isaiah Basler of Ste. Genevieve. Zeke Moreland of St. James was in first.

Dominic Ransom finished in second place and is headed to state at 132. He pinned Aries Nicholas of Owensville at forty five seconds in the championship round one. In the quarterfinals, Ransom pinned Koa Mitchell of Dexter at 1:50. Ransom defeated Dakota Kurtti of St. James by a 11-6 decision in the semifinals. He fell to Gavin Gross of Ste. Genevieve in the first place match by a 16-3 major decision.

Adam Peregoy claimed third place at 138 and is headed to state. In the first round of the championship he received a bye. Peregoy pinned Joshua Tesreau of Central (Park Hills) in the quarterfinals at 1:49. In the semifinals, Dominic Federico of St. Mary's (St. Louis won by a 12-2 major decision over Peregoy in the consolation semifinals. Peregoy claimed third place when he defeated Bass Hughes of St. Clair by a 6-2 decision. Federico was champion.

Ethan Hurt finished in second place at 145 and will be headed to state. For the championship first round, he received a bye. He pinned Spencer Potts of Kennett in the quarterfinals at 1:27. Hurt won by a 13-2 major decision over Cody Wilfong of St. James in the semifinals. He finished in second place when Brock Woodcock of St. Clair pinned him at 1:49.

Colton Brendel finished in third place and is headed to state at 152. He received a bye in the first round of the championship. Jaxen Grams of Dexter was pinned by Brendel at 4:25 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he fell to Levi Wiegand of Ste. Genevieve by a 5-3 decision. In the consolation semifinals, Brendel pinned Dylan Schacht of St. James at 3:41. He claimed third place when he made a quick pin at fifty eight seconds over Cameron Martin of University City. Wiegand of Ste. Genevieve claimed first.

Ty Shetley was the champion of the 160 class and is headed to state. He received a bye in the first round of the championship. In the quarterfinals, Shetly won by a 7-2 decision over Mason Langeneckert of Ste. Genevieve. He pinned Wesley Cornell of St. Mary's (St. Louis) at 3:59 in the semifinals. Shetley was the champion when he won by a 4-3 decison over Cameron Simcox.

Austin Brock's season came to end in the 170 class. He first received a bye in round one of championship. He fell to Alex Fisher of Affton by a 13-1 major decision in the quarterfinals. Brock received a bye in the second round of the consolation. In consolation round three, he was pinned by Alan Kopp of Owensville at 1:42. Ethan Ogden of Ste. Genevieve took first place.

Bennett Sherrell's season ended in the 182 class. In the championship round one, he pinned Jesse Goldsmith at 2:56. He fell to Landom Kramme of Owensville by a 11-0 major decision. Sherrell defeated Ervin Perryman of Normandy Collaborative by a 12-5 decision in the consolation round two. He was defeated by Seth Kenney of St. James in round three of consolation by a 8-5 decision. Kramme was crowned champion.

Jordan Rice was the district champion at 195 and qualified for state. In the first round of the championship, he received a bye. Rice pinned Elijah Wilson of Owensville in the quarterfinals at 1:37. In the semifinals, he pinned Gabe Begley of St. Mary's (St. Louis) at 3:29. Rice was the champion when he pinned Harrison Pennington of Dexter at 3:41.

Jacob Patton's season came to end at 220. In round one of the championship, he was pinned by She Eberhardt of Herculaneum at twenty nine seconds. He received a bye in consolation round one. Patton fell to Jed Hitch of St. James by a 6-2 decision in consolation round two.

Cayden Thacker's season finished in the 285 class. He received a bye for the first round of the championship. In the quarterfinals, Thacker was pinned by Billy Pryor of St. Mary's (St. Louis) at 7:44. He was pinned in the second round of the consolation by Tristin Dusold of Affton at 1:42. Thacker fell to a 7-5 decision in round three of the consolation by James Mouyassar of Herculaneum. In the semifinals of the consolation, he fell to Nat Bilderback of MICDS by a 9-2 decision.
