Eagles Streak Past St. James To Claim District 3 Championship
Sullivan's boys basketball team is streaking into March.
The Eagles toppled No. 1 seed St. James 41-25 on Friday night in the Class 4 District 3 championship game, securing their first district title since 2019.
Sullivan won the championship on their home floor, the first time they've achieved that since 2003.
They now roll into Tuesday's sectional game against Lift for Life at Kirkwood High School. Tip-off is slated for 7:45 p.m.
Friday's championship was the culmination of a late season surge.
Sullivan has won four straight and seven of their last nine.
Their path to the championship included a first round bye and rematches against Salem and St. James.
Salem bludgeoned the Eagles 52-36 on Feb. 16, which represents Sullivan's last defeat.
They rebounded two nights later by defeating St. James 48-39.
Sullivan flipped the script on Salem in Wednesday's quarterfinal, winning 41-32.
