The Eagles Soar Over Pacific In 4-2 Victory

Sullivan (2-0) secured a narrow 4-2 victory over Pacific (1-1) in the second round of the Four Rivers Conference tournament on Saturday, Mar. 16.

The Eagles are advancing to the championship game at home on Wednesday, Mar. 20, at 6 p.m. They hope to be the first team to score against the Union Wildcats, who have gotten 25 runs in their past two wins.

Drake Gawer earned the Most Valuable Player belt against the Indians, his second within a week after the Wright City scrimmage. As the winning pitcher, he recorded a strikeout while surrendering one earned run, two walks and a hit. At bat, Gawer racked up two RBIs, 2 hits and a walk.

Nate McReynolds stepped onto the mound for relief during the bottom of the 5th. He executed two strikeouts and gave up two hits and two walks.

At bat, the Eagles drew up four runs, four hits, four RBIs and four walks.

Landen Doza grabbed three runs and a hit, and Cambrian Koch was Sullivan’s other scorer.

Chase Blue recorded 2 RBIs and a hit, while Dayton Skaggs tallied two walks and Seth Valley had one.

Pacific first marked the scoreboard with a run by Bennett Parker in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Sullivan responded by tying it 1-1 when Doza secured home plate on Gawer’s double.

The two Eagle players continued to work their magic at the top of the 5th inning. Doza took a 2-1 lead for Sullivan by capitalizing again on Gawer’s line drive.

Once the Indians returned on offense, Pacific’s Trey Kulick made a run to tie the game again.

Sullivan refused to let their conference championship hopes slip away. With Blue’s grounder at the top of the 7th, Koch and Doza ultimately scored two crucial runs to seal the 4-2 victory over the Indians.
