Eagles Score 32 Runs On Back-To-Back Days
Senior Gabe Wienhoff shut the door on Steelville (1-6), sealing Sullivan’s (5-4) victory with his first varsity hit and RBI.
The Eagles led 14-0 heading into the bottom of the third and looked to finish off the Cardinals early. Sullivan had two runners on base, with Anden Carey in scoring position, but two outs on the board.
Wienhoff came to the rescue, ripping a grounder through the right side of the field for a single. He drove Carey in for the game-winning run and was soon surrounded by his teammates dogpiling him at first base.
Wienhoff did not realize until then that he had also sent the Cardinals home. “I just kind of went up there and swung the bat,” he shared. “I didn’t even know I got the walk-off. I just got on base.”
As a senior, Wienhoff is sad that his time with the Eagles is soon coming to a close. But he is grateful for the memories made with his friends on the field and in the dugout. Wienhoff thanked God for giving him the opportunity to play ball.
