Eagles Outlast Hawks On Thursday

The Sullivan Eagles were stellar on Thursday. Their defense helped them in a big win in baseball over the Valley Park Hawks on the road. Valley Park tallied seven hits and outhit Sullivan, but the Eagles held strong to outlast their opponents. The Eagles even gave up three errors, but still defeated Valley Park, 3-2.

In the fourth inning, Sullivan drew first blood. Gavin Schmidt hit a line drive single and Dayton Skaggs followed with a huge double to left. Chase Blue scored Schmidt on a ground ball single to left. Skaggs advanced to third. Blue stole second base before Skaggs was scored by a ground out by Drake Gawer. Valley Park scored a run at the bottom of the fifth.

In the sixth inning, the Eagles scored another run. Blue walked and advanced to second on a passed ball. Gawer ground out to second, but advanced Blue. Blue was scored when Lucas Parsons hit a line drive single to center. The Hawks scored at their next at bat, but it wasn’t enough. Sullivan secured the win by one point.

Koch was astounding on the mound with six strikeouts and four hits in four innings. Lane Blankenship pitched two innings and recorded one strikeout and gave up three hits. He was the only pitcher to give up two runs and an earned run. Parsons was the closing pitcher and picked up the Sullivan save. He finished with one strikeout in the one inning pitched.
