Eagles Golf Team Gets Ready For Action

The Sullivan Eagles golf team is prepared for their season to come back in full swing.

The team has been practicing hard and are looking forward to their season.

Sullivan finished last season with a 3-5 record and Jordan Woodcock competing at state.

"Practice hasn't been too bad," said head coach Dino McKinney. "Early spring season is always a battle with weather. Also, having four to five basketball players whose season fortunately went longer slowed us down a bit. That is always a good problem to have."

Sullivan’s basketball team won the district championship this season which extended their season.

Kaleb White, who is a standout basketball player, is also a top notch asset on the golf team.

He secured a first place finish at Salem last season with a plus twelve over par.

"The positive is our numbers (15 boys and girls) and their desire to improve each day out," Coach McKinney continued.

Logan Watters, Charlie Lohden, Blaine Sappington, and White are looking to make their return to the varsity team.

"Strengths are having four guys back who played varsity last season," McKinney said. "We need to work on consistency, which every person who plays golf has to deal with attaining."

Sullivan defeated Pacific last year at home. They won 193-212 and was led by White with a plus eight over par. Watters followed with a plus twelve over par. Sullivan used the same motivation to win two more meets back to back. They excelled against St. James and Union at home and finished in first place at the Salem tournament.

"Our expectations in this program have never really changed through the years," McKinney said. "We have been fortunate to have successful teams and individuals because they put in the work to improve at the game and had the desire to be successful. We set a goal to compete for a conference championship, and hope to be playing out best come district time and advance as many kids as possible to state."
