Eagles Finish Second, Sending Eight Wrestlers To State

Sullivan’s efforts for a third straight district championship fell shy Saturday, but the Eagles will still be represented at the Class 2 state wrestling meet.

The Eagles took runner-up in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament at Sullivan High School. Ste. Genevieve finished atop the standings, unseating the two-time champion Eagles.

Ste. Genevieve accumulated 236.5 points. Sullivan totaled 165 points.

St. Clair took third with 155 points and St. James was fourth with 137.

St. Mary’s rounded out the top five with 136.5 points.

Ty Shetley (160) and Jordan Rice (195) won their respective weight classes.

Shetley heads back to the state tournament where he will look to build off last season’s sixth-place finish.

Six other Eagles wrestlers will be looking to reach the podium next weekend.

Ethan Hurt (145) and Dominic Ransom (132) finished second place.

Colton Brendel (152), Adam Peregoy (138), Eli Peregoy (126) and Carter Blankenship took third.
