Eagles Dominate Bulldogs, Wildcats

Gawer pitches no-hitter on Monday against St. Clair.

 

The Eagles baseball team is red hot right now.

Sullivan has been rolling through adversaries and won two early week games on Monday and Tuesday.

Drake Gawer pitched a no hitter on Monday at home against their district opponents, 10-0.

The Eagles continued the momentum on the road against Cuba and won, 18-7.

St. Clair

The Eagles were in top performance shape on Monday against the Bulldogs. Gawer led Sullivan as he pitched a no hitter on the mound and even shined at the plate.

Sullivan surged past St. Clair, 10-0.

In the first inning, Sullivan opened up the scoring with two runs. After an out, Chase Blue singled on a ground ball. Gavin Schmidt hit a line drive single and then both runners advanced on a passed ball. After another out, Gawer blasted a fly ball to right and scored the two runs on a double. Sullivan took the early lead by two.

In the second inning, the boys added two more unanswered runs. After an out, Nolan Ulrich was hit by the pitch. Mitchell Garner singled on a line drive to center and Ulrich advanced to third on the throw. Cambrian Koch scored both runners with a huge fly ball double to right field.

At the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles secured the win with six more runs. Garner landed on a single and advanced to third when Koch laid down a sacrifice bunt. Garner was scored when Blue singled on a line drive. Schmidt was intentionally walked and Lucas Parsons landed on an error to load the bases. Gawer performed again when he scored three runs on a fly ball to right. Seth Valley scored another run with a line drive single. Valley was scored by Garner to end the game.

Garner went 3-3 at the plate. Blue and Gawer also went 2-3.

Gawer finished the game with ten strikeouts and only had one base runner the whole game.

Cuba

Sullivan took the lead early in the first with three runs, but Cuba answered back. The Eagles tied the game back in the fourth and broke the tie in the next inning. Sullivan secured the win with ten runs in the sixth inning. The Eagles defeated the Wildcats, 18-7.

In the first inning, the Eagles drew first blood with three runs. Koch hit a ground ball and reached on an error. Koch then stole third and was scored when Blue landed on a ground ball single. Schmidt walked after Blue stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Blue scored on a pass ball and Schmidt advanced to third on the same ball. Gawer hit a fly ball single to right and scored Schmidt.

In the fourth inning, Sullivan bounced back and tied the game at seven. Alex Toews reached on a wild pitch and stole second right away. He advanced when Koch hit a fly ball single to right. Toews and Koch both scored when Blue hit a line drive single to center. Gawers hit a ground ball and reached on an error that scored Blue. Gawer scored on an error made by the first baseman and the game was tied. The Eagles broke the tie at their next at bat.

In the sixth inning, the boys secured the win and tallied six ten more runs. Schmidt hit a ground ball single to center and then stole second. Schmidt scored when Jordan Rice hit a ground ball single to center. Dayton Skaggs was walked after a run was scored. Valley was hit by a pitch and then stole second after Skaggs stole third. Garner scored both runners with a fly ball to center and Garner advanced to second on the throw. Toews blasted a ground ball double and scored the runner. Toews was scored when Blue landed on a fly ball double to left. Blue scored on a line drive made by Schmidt. Schmidt stole second and scored when Rice hit a line drive single. Gawer scored another run and Dayton Skaggs did the same to end the game.

Schmidt and Rice both went 2-3 at the plate.

Sullivan’s three pitchers finished with six strikeouts with Schmidt lasting the longest on the mound with four innings.
