Eagles Baseball Stops Potosi Trojan Attacks In 6-1 Victory

Sullivan (4-1) kicked off their three-game road trip with a 6-1 sweep over Potosi (3-2) on Tuesday, Mar. 26.

Landen Doza’s double drove in Gavin Schmidt’s first run of the season, giving the team an early 1-0 lead at the top of the 1st.

Drake Gawer prevented a Trojan attack by pitching a no-hitter in his five innings, striking out seven and walking four. He and Dayton Skaggs both shared Sullivan’s Most Valuable Player belt.

D. Skaggs continued his team’s momentum in the top of the 2nd with a homer to left field.

Doza’s single allowed Schmidt to seize his second run in the next inning. Gawer powered off a line drive, allowing Doza to land home for a 4-0 Eagle lead.

Nate McReynolds pitched for relief at the bottom of the 6th for the Eagles. He executed two strikeouts and gave up three walks, a hit, and an earned run, Potosi’s only score.

For Sullivan’s last at-bat, Doza sneaked up on the Trojans by stealing 2nd, 3rd and home plate. Toews followed Doza’s lead by secretly rolling through the infield until Mitchell Garner’s single allowed him to score.

Isaiah Skaggs pitched for the Eagles in the bottom of the 7th and allowed only two hits. Second baseman Toews and first baseman Gawer made two groundouts, while Raiden Redd caught a flyout to shut down the Trojans’ final chance for an attack.

With 30 appearances at bat, Sullivan racked up ten hits, six runs, five RBIs and four walks.

The Eagles’ pitching rotation threw nine strikeouts, allowing seven walks, three hits and an earned run.
