Eagles Baseball Faces Gauntlet In Week Four
The Eagles were tested against tough competition at the end of week four.
After routing Steelville and Hermann, Sullivan (6-6) found themselves on the ropes against Union (13-3). The Eagles led 2-0 to start but lost momentum after a lightning delay and fell 5-2.
Sullivan split three games over the weekend in Fredericktown (8-2). They first lost 4-3 to the hosts of the wood bat tournament. Then, on Saturday, the Eagles fell 9-5 to DeSoto (5-7) but rebounded later to beat Kelly (2-7) 4-2.

Nate McReynolds was the first to put the Eagles on the board. He doubled, then punched it home on Raiden Redd’s line drive RBI. Redd later scored and pushed Sullivan ahead to a 2-0 lead.
Mitchell Garner racked up a team-high two walks. Landen Doza, Nolan Ulrich, Chase Blue and Seth Valley took one.
Drake Gawer pitched a no-hitter in the first three innings. He threw a heater, striking out four batters and giving up no walks.
Mahlon Foster followed in the rotation after the lightning delay. The sophomore surrendered three earned runs, two hits and two walks.
Isaiah ‘Dirty Dan’ Skaggs came in for relief during the top of the fifth. He pounded a strikeout while allowing two hits, an earned run and a walk.
Grant Halmick finished the inning with two strikeouts and pitched until the seventh.
Kaden Smith was last to take the mound for Sullivan. The senior gave up two walks, an earned run and a hit.
Fredericktown Wood Bat Tournament
Pitchers Lucas Parsons and Redd were named to the all-tournament team.
Parsons threw the first four innings against the hosting Blackcats. He hurled six strikeouts while only allowing three walks, two hits and an earned run.
Redd shut down the Kelly Hawks from the mound. He pitched for 5.2 innings and pounded six strikeouts in his outing. The sophomore only gave up three walks, two earned runs and two hits.
Doza topped the Eagles with three runs and three walks. He was a force at bat with two hits and an RBI.
Alex Toews led Sullivan with four hits and also scored twice.
Garner broke loose, picking up two runs, an RBI, a hit and a walk.
Redd racked up two hits, an RBI, a run and a walk.
Ulrich notched two walks, a run, an RBI and a hit.
D. Gawer powered 2 RBIs, two hits and a walk.
Blue dominated with two hits, an RBI and a run.
Brody Gawer brought in 2 RBIs and a hit.
Valley tallied a run and a walk.
McReynolds drove a runner home on his RBI and recorded a hit.
Smith punched it home once.
Skaggs landed a hit.
