Dan’s Corner Pocket Is Bringing Billiards Back

“I love pool,” Dan McVey, owner of the new pool hall, said. He wants to teach billiards and bring pool halls back to their golden age. McVay is looking to get as many people involved as possible, believing that billiards can be a community sport for all ages.

McVey is passionate about pool and can teach anyone, young or old, the game of billiards. Pool is a defensive game and the more you play, the better you can be. He also doesn't sell alcohol as he wants Dan's Corner Pocket to be a place you can bring the whole family.

Have you ever wondered what billiards would be like in the future? As far as the new pool hall goes,  the future is now. McVey has some of the best equipment one could use. He has balls that don't mark up the cloth on the table, and the Simonis 860 cloth is perfect for the cue ball to glide across. The rails on the side of the tables are called penguin rails. They're a high density rubber that is tested for accuracy as stripes and solids ricochet about. Coming soon, McVey will have cameras and TVs above every table so you can sit back and watch the games out of the way of the players.

The hours are 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., or thereabouts, Tuesday through Friday. On Saturdays, they open at 4 p.m. now, but will be opening at noon in the near future. McVey reserves Sundays and Mondays for leagues, which include NAPA (North American Poolshooters Association), APA (American Poolplayers Association) and Meramec In-House Pool League.

The rates are 50 cents a game in the daytime and one dollar a game after dark. In his efforts to teach, McVey offers free lessons for kids. Dan's Corner Pocket is at 114 West Euclid in Sullivan. Come check out the new and improved sport today!
