Boys Wrestling Pins Second In Marshfield Duals

Boys wrestling opened their season with a second-place finish at the Marshfield Duals on Saturday, Dec. 7. They beat the brakes off of their competition, routing Owensville 57-18, Buffalo 61-12, St. James 47-31 and El Dorado Springs 72-5. Sullivan’s only loss came in a tight battle against the host Marshfield, where they fell 43-34.

The Eagles will be hosting Washington (Dec. 11) and Ste. Genevieve (Dec. 17) in home duals that begin at 5 p.m. 

Sullivan had five wrestlers who went undefeated in Marshfield. Eli Peregoy, Camden Henderson, Ian Henderson and Carter Blankenship went 5-0, while Conner Roach won all four of his bouts.

Peregoy (138) seized victory in all five skirmishes, picking up 30 points. He locked down Diego Lansford (Owensville) in 1:23, Lane Beck (Buffalo) in 0:49 and Beau Hancock (0:39). The senior secured his final wins by forfeit and a 15-0 technical fall over Jonas Steen (Marshfield) in 4:40.

C. Henderson (120) racked up 30 points for Sullivan. He won his two bouts on the mat and rested during three forfeits. The junior swiftly pinned Keith Huxtable (Buffalo) at 1:18 and Wyatt Webster (St. James) at 0:39. 

I. Henderson (113) ran the table in Marshfield, earning 29 points for the Eagles. He shut down Dax Weinbaum (St. James) in 4:39 in a 19-4 technical fall, locked up Noel Baguio (Owensville) in 1:15 and wrapped Chase Kroll (Marshfield) up in 0:18. The freshman also took two forfeited wins. 

Carter Blankenship (126) swept his competition clean, bringing in 26 points for Sullivan. He shut down Joshua Whittle (El Dorado Springs) in 0:47 and edged past Steven Buddemeyer in an 11-9 decision. Blankenship then won a 17-1 technical fall over Johnathan McGlynn (Marshfield) in 3:12. The senior also grabbed two forfeited victories.

Roach (132) steamrolled his class in Marshfield, scoring 24 for the Eagles. He quickly locked up Lucas Bell (St. James) in 1:14, Shane Fletcher (El Dorado Springs) in 1:17 and Ethan Burt (Marshfield) in 1:22. The senior also snatched a forfeited win.

Brennan Birrer, Austin Ray and Jaxson Blankenship held a 4-1 record at the duals.

Birrer (190) notched 23 points in his five battles. He left no time for his opponents on the mat: taking down Connor Vogt (Owensville) in 1:56, Jackson Hoak (St. James) in 0:16 and Samuel Kohler (El Dorado Springs) in 1:33. The senior also shut out Gradden Higgans (Buffalo) 18-0 in a 5:25 win by technical fall.

Ray (150) won four of his skirmishes for 21 points. He wrapped up Zachary Holtmeyer (Owensville) in 0:50 and Blaine Noakes (St. James) in 2:00, then overcame Case Obernuefemann (Buffalo) in a 8-6 decision. The junior also won a forfeited round.

Blankenship (215) delivered four pins for 24 points on Saturday. He brought down Aiden Carpenter (Owensville) in 3:47, Cody Spurlock (Buffalo) in 1:05, Dylan Whitesell (El Dorado Springs) in 1:32 and Carter Pruitt (Marshfield) in 1:34.
