Boys Wrestling Gets Back-To-Back Conference Titles
The boys’ wrestling team brought home a Four Rivers Conference title for the second year in a row on Thursday, Jan. 11, in Pacific. Six Sullivan wrestlers also clinched first place in their classes.
Before the boys stepped onto the mats to secure a consecutive conference championship, Sullivan head coach Carl Lawrence told them, “You guys deserve it, but you have to go out and earn it.”
Lawrence claimed it was an “honor and privilege” to coach this group to their third conference championship under his four-year leadership. He explained that their success has been because “the team side of things has finally taken the lead over the individual side being king.” He continued, “Many things came into play on winning the championship again; the most important is the team deciding they want that accolade early in the season; we have individual and team goals.”
Dominic Ransom and Adam Peregoy also notched their 100th career wins at the tournament, following Colton Brendel as the three Sullivan wrestlers who have hit the milestone this season.
Lawrence has coached Ransom and Peregoy since they were on the youth wrestling team; he stated that “to see what these guys have become as state contenders and successful wrestlers has been great.” He described them as “captains on our team, and they lead everywhere they go.”
Ransom (144), Peregoy (150), Camden Henderson (113), Conner Roach (132), Colton Brendel (165) and Dayton Skaggs (190) all clinched 1st place for their group.
Jeremiah Rodriguez (215), Carter Blankenship (120) and Draysen Nolie (138) finished in 2nd.
Oliver Borton (126) landed in 3rd.
The placements of Kane Strehl (175), Nolan Center (285) and Austin Ray (157) were unknown.
