Baseball Hosts Trailblazers And Lions At Round Robin

Sullivan (3-2) battled both Lions and Trailblazers (4-0-1) in their home round robin on Mar. 29.

The Eagles began Saturday on a high note, routing Gateway Legacy Christian 9-0.

They were tested later on against Father Tolton Regional Catholic. Sullivan gave the Class 4 squad a tough fight but fell 4-2.

Lucas Parsons was the first to take the mound against the Lions. He pitched until the bottom of the sixth, striking out three batters. The senior gave up no runs and allowed just three hits and a walk. At the plate, Parsons recorded an RBI and a walk.

After the game, he was awarded Sullivan’s Most Valuable Player belt. Parsons praised his team for their grit and believes it has helped rally them to victories, including the Lions sweep. “We have a deep pitching staff that we can rely on late into the game that helps us win,” he explained. “There’s a lot of trust in guys we can rely on from freshmen up to seniors. We’re also a scrappy team who puts runs together in all situations.”

Wyatt Henricks was next to pitch for the Eagles. He hurled a strikeout while giving up a hit and a walk.

Anden Carey sealed Sullivan’s victory over Gateway Legacy. He shut down their attempted comeback, allowing just a hit and a walk.

Landen Doza led the Eagles with three runs and was walked three times.

Drake Gawer was a force at-bat, going 3-for-4. The senior put up 3 RBIs, three hits and a run. 

Mitchell Garner dominated with 3 RBIs, two hits and a run.

Nolan Ulrich collected two runs, two walks and a hit.

Chase Blue unleashed two hits, an RBI and a run.

Seth Valley tallied a run and a hit.

Alex Toews and Brody Gawer each landed a hit.

Sullivan came up short in their late rally against the Trailblazers.

Valley and Doza scored for the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh. Valley also logged a hit for Sullivan, while Doza recorded two.

D. Gawer racked up two hits, an RBI and a walk. 

Garner brought in 2 hits and an RBI.

Raiden Redd and Nate McReynolds each made a hit.

Parsons took two walks while Blue and Ulrich each had one.

D. Gawer was the first to pitch against Father Tolton. He pounded four strikeouts while giving up five hits, three earned runs and three walks.

Foster came in for relief with two strikeouts and did not give up a run. 

Isaiah Skaggs took the hill in the top of the seventh. He struck out a Trailblazer and only surrendered a hit.
